Both our internal and external communications efforts have received numerous recent awards, including a Global SABRE Award, two Golden Trumpet Awards from the Publicity Club of Chicago, and the Chicago Skyline Award from the Public Relations Society of America.

Our Corporate Communications team is seeking a communications intern to play an important role in helping to execute our communications strategy, which is designed to enhance the company’s reputation with both internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate will be a creative self-starter, committed to delivering quality communications that positively support our culture and our brand.

Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching, writing and editing communications materials for a variety of channels and audiences (e.g., articles for the corporate intranet, press releases, digital signage, Yammer content, etc.)

  • Supporting employee meetings and events, such as open forums with leaders, new product launch celebrations, annual quality awards, etc.

  • Assisting with news release distribution and tracking company news coverage

  • Managing the department’s photo library

  • Providing general support as needed to members of the Communications team

This program gives students the experience of working in a business, manufacturing, and/or technical environment, which will assist them in relating their academic studies to practical work situations. Interns will develop a working knowledge of the trucking industry in one or more of the following areas: Operations (manufacturing, supply chain, procurement), engineering, information technology, finance/accounting, marketing, communications, or human resources. Students will also develop an understanding of Navistar’s structure, values, customers and processes.

Basic Requirements:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Post-graduate Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field

  • At least Sophomore standing for undergrad at the time of application

  • Able to work at least 12 weeks (starting the end of May or early June through August)

  • Junior or Senior level in program preferred

  • Must be able to provide housing and transporation for the duration of the internship

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required – For certain positions (Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information)

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B or F-1 status)
