Canadian National Railway Company, a leader in the North American freight rail industry, seeks a highly motivated student for a Tax Intern position at CN's U.S. headquarters in Homewood, IL.

We are hiring for a full-time internship position for Summer 2018, with possible extension into the school year on a part-time basis.

n

n Your Role n

n

You will be working with the Property Tax Manager in our U.S. tax department, assisting with property tax compliance duties, as well as other U.S. tax compliance tasks.

n

n

n

+ n

Assist in preparing railroad property tax returns, various other tax returns, and related documentation.

n

+ Assist in streamlining the property tax payment process to avoid excessive payments.


n

n

+ n

Help ensure that SAP parcel data is current, and adequately describes the property.

n

+ Identify and quantify errors in SAP parcel data, and help resolve anomalies.

n

+ Work with local taxing authorities to obtain or update assessment/billing data.

n

+ Help to ensure properties are not subject to dual taxation.

n

+ Scan tax assessment documents for entry into SAP

n

+ Assist with investigating inquiries related to property tax issues.


n

n

+ n

Help to identify company operating property by tax jurisdiction.

n

+ Help address questions related to potential changes in property ownership.

n

+ Assist with reviewing state-assessed property valuations, as needed.


n Qualifications n

n

n

+ College or university student working toward a degree in Accounting or Business, ideally within two years of graduation.

n

+ Strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills.

n

+ Proficiency with Excel and other computer applications.

n

+ Ability to work well independently, and as part of a team.

n

+ Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with both peers and taxing authorities.
