Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Summer Intern -Application Developer in Chicago, Illinois
Requirements for summer internship:
Prospective summer interns must be at least 18 years of age and should be enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate degree program.
This is a full-time, hourly position: 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday.
If selected, interns are responsible for securing housing for the summer.
Individuals who have held internship positions with the churchwide organization in the past are not eligible.
Preferred start date is June 4, 2018. End date to be determined based on return to school date.
This position consists of working as part of a highly-functional, professional ASP.NET development team. Interns with the ELCA Information Technology (IT) area treated as core members of their work teams, and are assigned work that is both educational and provide significant experience in their areas of expertise.
Work will consist of receiving front-end ASP.net related assignments from the supervisor and working both independently and with team members to complete these assignments. Assignments are generally divided into three areas; new development for projects, enhancements for existing applications, and user service for existing applications.
Additionally, the intern will attend planning meetings directly related to their work area, as well as meetings related to the larger goals of the ELCA and IT to expose them to the workflow and methodology of professional web development.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for long periods of time. Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Possess or working towards a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of one(1) year college coursework completed
Experience with ASP.NET through coursework or work experience.
Exposure to reading and writing queries for SQL Server.
Experience with HTML 5 or higher and CSS. This includes flexible design, master page templates, etc.
Works with version control software for checking in, checking out, version tracking, branching and merging changes to source code.
Adheres to ELCA’s documented standards for developing software solutions, e.g. coding, database, deployment, web service, and architecture standards.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated and possess strong problem-solving ability.
Work independently and persistently on intern projects.
