Holcim (US) Inc. Industrial Hygiene Internship in Chicago, Illinois

Overview

PURPOSE

To assist with the various industrial hygiene based programs and initiatives in the US for 2018. Including but not limited to: various aspects of the respirable crystalline silica campaign (includes sampling), IH database work, research into various IH related topics, training implementation, general IH theory (standards writing).

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform industrial hygiene assessments for potential health hazards at LafargeHolcim OSHA workplaces including evaluations for: chemicals, particulates, noise.

  • Conduct industrial hygiene exposure assessments including walk-through surveys, inspections, exposure monitoring and hazard control evaluations.

  • Prepare concise technical reports on the assessments conducted and provide recommendations to eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.

  • Interpret routine industrial hygiene requirements and regulations

  • Assist Industrial Hygienist in coordinating, planning and executing projects

  • Assist in database fortification.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Will be held accountable for completing projects within set timeline.

  • Interaction with lab to perform analyses of samples taken

  • Data entry of specific intern’s results into industrial hygiene database.

  • Attend weekly industrial hygiene meetings to discuss weekly goals and perform QC.

  • Plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload, recommend changes in practices or procedures.

  • Perform others duties as designated by program supervisor.

  • Technical reports on the findings of the survey will be completed in the designated time, and to the specifications of the Industrial Hygienist.

  • Organize large amounts of information into a coherent, meaningful format.

  • Any ongoing IH projects occurring during that period.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

Industrial Hygiene intern will be the liaison with site management before, during, and after industrial hygiene survey completion. Intern will report directly to the Industrial Hygienist, who reports to the Heads of Health and Safety.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Environmental Health, Safety or Environmental (or equivalent) undergraduate program- Preferbaly focused on Industrial Hygiene

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills

  • Team oriented and able to work with all levels of the organization

  • Willing to spend time out in field getting know the business first hand

  • Ability to work flexible hours, at times, throughout the summer
