Job Description

Summary:

GATX is looking for a motivated individual to join our Engineering team in Chicago as an Intern to assist with day-to-day operations and projects. This will include contributing to updates of engineering instructions, developing engineering training material, and supporting strategic engineering projects.

Responsibilities:

With oversight and direction from the Engineering team, the intern will:

  • Contribute to updates of engineering instructions

  • Develop engineering training material

  • Provide technical support to the network with guidance from the engineering team

  • Provide engineering support to strategic projects.

  • Visit a shop to support engineering instruction improvement and training development

  • Build the engineering technical support library

  • Develop engineering SharePoint sites and databases

  • Update CAD drawings

  • Excellent oral and written communication, as well as interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task

  • Ability to be self-sufficient and proactive and to work well in a team environment

  • Self- starter with good problem solving skills

  • Business experience in a professional office environment desirable

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (GPA 3.5 or higher)

  • Proficiency in multiple PC applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD).

  • Strong analytical and writing skills. Clear communicator.

Hours:

Monday through Friday: 8:30am to 5pm. The duration of the internship, including working days, will be agreed upon with the intern at the start of the internship program. Internship duration may not exceed 6 months per calendar year.
