Home Chef Experiment & Test Technician Intern in Chicago, Illinois

This person will lead execution of tests of our customer product in our ESPEC temperature and humidity simulation Test Chamber, onsite at our MDW distribution facility, in order to drive strategic company decisions in packaging and other areas.

We estimate that this position will work 10-15 hours/week (2-3 days).

Detailed Responsibilities:

Assist with Test Design and Planning

  • Manage test inflow request form and work with Packaging team leads to prioritize tests

  • Work with internal customers to define requirements and help design test to meet needs

  • Schedule tests and manage calendar to ensure chamber is utilized to optimal capacity

  • Use expertise and knowledge of equipment and tools to recommend best test design

Conduct Tests

  • Pack sample customer boxes according to the experiment design, documenting process steps with pictures and notes and carefully marking the data logger # tied to each sample

  • Use testing software to set new temperature profiles

  • Upload profiles to chamber, use chamber and data logger interfaces to start tests and timers

  • Ensure Machine, probes, and data loggers are working properly and well-maintained, changing humidity filters or working with manufacturers if replacements or repairs are needed

  • Check on tests periodically during to ensure they are running smoothly

Report Test Results and Analyze Data

  • Pull product from chamber once test is complete

  • Pull data from chamber and data loggers, upload/import to Excel format, distribute to internal customers, analyze, and provide insights as needed

  • Maintain organized repository of all test files

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (quantitative field preferred)

  • Strong attention to detail: running each test consistently is critical for valuable results

  • Good communication skills: ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively

  • Recordkeeping: document testing procedures and results in a professional and consistent way

  • Technical aptitude: ability to quickly learn how to use chamber, probes, and data loggers

  • Experience with experiment design / test best practice

  • Familiarity with Meal-Kit industry / Food industry a plus
