n About the Northern Trust Intern Program: The Northern Trust Intern Program is a highly competitive ten week summer program focused on hiring rising senior level undergraduate students. The program provides an opportunity to work in a fast paced and inclusive culture, while utilizing individual skills and abilities to make a positive impact on the company. While interns work directly with their team on day-to-day tasks, they also benefit from having a mentor, participating in professional development activities, and attending senior management informational presentations. nInternship Placement: Assignments are based at our corporate headquarters in Chicago. Team placements are based on the candidate's experience, skill set, and interest. Internships are available within these Technology teams:

n

Accounting and Positions Group: The team is responsible for delivering high quality, strategic solutions that meet the needs of the business. The intern would work on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for holdings and accounting services. In addition to receiving training on tools used by IT developers, the intern will learn how this architecture is implemented within the organization, work within a team of IT professionals and learn about custody and trust processing. The ideal candidate will have completed some computer science coursework, including Java programming.

Architecture & Innovation (A&I) : Architecture and Innovation establishes Northern Trust's technology direction, introduces new technologies into the organization, and publishes technology standards and implementation patterns as guidance for application teams so they are in alignment with our overall technology direction. In March of 2017, A&I and infrastructure Engineering took Northern Trust's first private Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) PaaS (Platform as a Service) infrastructure live. As of Q3 of 2017, NT's Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) PaaS is running over 90 applications in production and an ever increasing pipeline of new plans for new development.

The intern will be assisting the PCF platform operating team in providing a stable and robust PaaS offering to NT application development teams. This will include enhancing a Spring Boot application used by PCF application developers to manage their UAT and Production environments as seamlessly as possible. The ideal candidate will have strong Java development language skills and a good understanding of web applications and web application architecture (Spring Boot, ReactJS a plus).

Asset Management - Portfolio Management Technology: The team is responsible for delivering investment portfolio management and decision support solutions that facilitate the management of over $1 Trillion in assets. The intern will work on one of the Agile/Scrum teams and pair with various team members during their stay. The work will include programming (C#, Oracle, Unix, SQL Server), business analysis, manual/automated testing and continuous integration. The ideal candidate will have completed some computer science coursework, including ANY object oriented programming. Exposure to relational databases is also a plus. The intern will interface with Scrum team members, business partners and various other teams within the technology organization. Expect to work on back-end ETL functions, services layer , and user interface components to develop end-to-end understanding of the app ications that we produce.

Client Digital Platform Services: Client Digital Platform Services team is responsible for building archetypes and reusable services used by both client and internal facing application across enterprise. We set coding and design standards and incorporate them into our archetypes to enable application developers to focus on business logic/function while building and deploying applications and services to Pivotal Cloud Foundry and Docker environments.

We are working towards our 3 year roadmap to build new application on target state technology on the Cloud. Working on this team will provide a rich experience in agile methodologies, including Test Driven Development, Paired Programming, Java and Cloud technologies.

The intern will be involved with POC work on this project, working closely with our product owners and lead architect. Work will also include developing micro services and developing test cases to services are fully functional. The ideal candidate will have strong Java development skills, and a good understanding of web applications and web application architecture.

Client Digital Solution Delivery Client Access Management: The CDCS Client Access Management team is responsible for building a new application used to manage client access to web applications at NT.
